How to Change an Air Cap Set

  1. Clean the gun first. Flush it with the right cleaner and unhook the hose.
  2. Remove the collar and air cap. Unscrew the collar at the front of the gun and lift off the air cap.
  3. Pull the needle. Unscrew the fluid control knob slowly so you don't lose the spring, squeeze the trigger and slide the needle out.
  4. Remove the nozzle. Use the gun wrench to unscrew the fluid nozzle.
  5. Fit the new set. Install the new nozzle snugly with the wrench, then the needle, spring, knob, air cap and collar. On T-Series guns, always fit the cap, needle and nozzle from the same set.
  6. Test on cardboard. Check viscosity with the #4 Ford cup, then adjust the fan and fluid flow until the pattern is even.

Will it fit?

Made for Fuji T-Series guns.

5100 sets fit the T70 bottom-feed and T75G gravity guns. Those are the T-Series guns that come with Fuji Mini-Mite, Q Platinum and D6 systems.

These sets don't fit

Air cap sets are made for one gun family. They won't fit:

  • M-Model guns (7001, 7002G). Use 7020 sets.
  • The G-XPC gun. Use 8050 sets.
  • Older Fuji guns. Not sure what you have? Send us a photo.

Size guide

Match the cap to the coating.

Thin coatings atomize best through a small cap. Thick ones need a bigger opening. Measure your coating with the #4 Ford cup and pick the set whose range it falls in.

Size guide and Ford cup ranges from Fuji Spray's 5100 air cap chart. Use it as a starting point and always test on cardboard first.

Not sure? Start with 1.3 mm.

It's the set that comes on the T70 and T75G, and it handles most lacquers, sealers, varnishes and polyurethanes. Add a 2.0 mm set if you spray waterborne paint or primer.

FAQ

5100 air cap questions, answered.

Which Fuji guns do 5100 air caps fit?

They fit the Fuji T70 and T75G T-Series guns, which come with Mini-Mite, Q Platinum and D6 systems. They don't fit M-Model guns (use 7020 sets), the G-XPC (use 8050 sets) or older Fuji guns.

Which size should I start with?

The 1.3 mm set that comes on the gun suits most lacquers, sealers, varnishes and polyurethanes. Go smaller for dyes, shellac and stain, and bigger for pigmented lacquer, oil-based paint, primer and waterborne paint.

What size do I need for waterborne paint and primer?

Fuji's chart recommends the 2.0 mm set (5100-6) for waterborne paint and primer. Check viscosity with the #4 Ford cup and thin only as the coating maker allows.

What's included in a set?

A colour-coded air cap, fluid needle and fluid nozzle. They're matched, so always change all three together.

How do I use the Ford cup ranges?

Fill the #4 Ford cup that came with your system, lift it and time how long the coating takes to run out. Pick the set whose range matches the time.

Can I buy several sizes at once?

Yes. The 5100 air cap bundle puts several sizes in one order, and the 5137 carry case keeps spare sets clean and together.
