Room painted Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace OC-6501

Chantilly Lace OC-65

Also sold as 2121-70

LRV 90.04Crisp & pure

Benjamin Moore's truest white, and one of its brightest. There's no coloured tint pulling it warm or cool, so it frames almost any wall colour cleanly. That's why most of it ends up on trim, doors and millwork. On walls it gives a sharp, streamlined, modern look. The catch: next to soft, muted colours it can feel stark, and on cabinets it can read a little clinical.

Cloud White CC-40

Also sold as OC-130 and 967

LRV 85.05Soft & warm

A tried-and-true white that's easy on the eyes. It's soft and a little cloudy, so it never makes a harsh line against your wall colour. It's beautiful with soft, muted colours like Revere Pewter HC-172: Revere Pewter works with a crisp white like Chantilly Lace too, but Cloud White makes the whole room feel gentler. Its slight yellow undertone makes it a warm, natural choice for walls, trim, ceilings and cabinets alike.

LRV 89.52Bright with warmth

Benjamin Moore's 2016 Colour of the Year. It sits between Chantilly Lace and Cloud White: nearly as bright as Chantilly, with a little of Cloud White's warmth. It started out as a trim colour, but that soft yellow undertone makes it an inviting wall colour too. Because it's bright, it holds its own next to vivid colours, and its warmth suits warm-toned rooms.

LRV 77.52Warm off-white

The deepest white on our list, but still a light, airy colour on the wall. Grey softens it and a touch of yellow keeps it warm and welcoming. It's one of our favourite whites for walls, and a great cabinet colour when you want a relaxed, natural look instead of a pure white that can feel too stark.

White Dove OC-17

Also sold as PM-19

LRV 83.16Soft & classic

Dove Wing's lighter partner, and the two are made for each other: White Dove on trim, Dove Wing on walls. Compared with Cloud White it has a little less yellow and a little more grey, so it's still warm but more neutral. It's about as versatile as a white gets: trim, kitchen cabinets and walls. Use it on walls and trim together in two sheens and the room feels taller.

LRV 82.68Cool & clean

A cool off-white with a little grey in it. It doesn't lean strongly in any direction, so it reads as a softer version of a pure white like Chantilly Lace. It's a smart trim colour when your walls are grey.

Oxford White CC-30

Same colour values as White Heron OC-57; also 869

LRV 86.69Bright, slightly cool

One of our favourite whites. It's like Decorator's White with a grey background, but not so grey that it stops reading as white, so it can stand in for a pure white. It's a softer take on Chantilly Lace and a close second to Cloud White for going with almost everything: warm enough for warm colours, clean enough for cool ones. Excellent on trim and millwork.

LRV 73.36Soft grey-white

Despite the name, this one leans toward grey. A slight green undertone makes it feel warmer than a true grey without turning beige. It's a great wall colour when you want just a hint of depth, and it looks good with most greys. Pair it with a lighter white on the trim, or use it on the trim too in a different sheen.

LRV 74.41Cool & airy

It sits between the warmth of Intense White and the grey of Pure White, with a mix of blue, green and grey that gives a soft, creamy take on a cool grey. It's at its best on walls, where it reads fresh but diffused, and it pairs well with cool blues, greens and greys.

LRV 78.94The coolest

The coolest white on our list, with the most blue. A little grey softens it, so it's crisp and fresh without being harsh, and despite the name it isn't a stark white. It's a good wall colour next to greys and cool blues.

Two whites from the same family. The walls get a little more depth and the trim stays soft. Warm, easy, and hard to get wrong.

Revere Pewter HC-172 with a crisp white looks sharp. With Cloud White, the whole room feels softer and more relaxed.

WallsTrim

Intense White walls, Chantilly Lace trim

A soft grey-white on the walls with the brightest white on the trim. Clean, modern contrast without a heavy grey.

MatteSemi-gloss

One white, two sheens

Questions

Benjamin Moore whites FAQ

What are the most popular Benjamin Moore whites?

White Dove OC-17, Chantilly Lace OC-65, Simply White OC-117, Cloud White CC-40 (OC-130) and Oxford White CC-30 are some of the best-known Benjamin Moore whites, and all five are on our top 10. Which one is right depends on your light and what the white sits next to.

What is the whitest Benjamin Moore white?

Chantilly Lace OC-65 has an LRV of 90.04, the highest in Benjamin Moore's Off-White Collection, with Simply White OC-117 close behind at 89.52. Chantilly Lace also has almost no undertone, which is why it reads as the purest white.

Why do some whites have CC numbers and others OC numbers?

CC numbers are the Canadian codes for Benjamin Moore's Designer Classics. Cloud White CC-40 is sold as OC-130 elsewhere, and Decorator's White CC-20 as OC-149. Oxford White CC-30 has the same colour values as White Heron OC-57. Any of these numbers gets you the same colour at our counters.

Which white is best for a north-facing room?

North light is cool and bluish, so it can make whites look grey. Warmer whites such as Cloud White, White Dove and Simply White hold up best. Cooler whites like Pure White and Paper White suit bright, south-facing rooms.

Can I use the same white on walls and trim?

Yes. Use a flatter sheen on the walls and a semi-gloss or gloss on the trim. The sheen change gives just enough contrast, and a single colour can make a room feel taller. White Dove and Cloud White work especially well this way.

What's the difference between White Dove and Dove Wing?

White Dove OC-17 (LRV 83.16) is the lighter of the two. Dove Wing OC-18 (LRV 77.52) is a deeper, warmer off-white. They share a family resemblance, which is why White Dove trim with Dove Wing walls is one of our favourite pairings.

Are the swatches free?

Yes. Benjamin Moore colour swatches are free, up to 10 per order. You only pay shipping, which is calculated at checkout.
