The Paint People is a family-owned Canadian paint retailer that started with one store in Mississauga in 1997. Today we have three stores, a thriving online store and a YouTube community of more than 154,000 subscribers. Our values haven't changed: knowledgeable service, quality products and relationships built on trust.
Our story
It started with one busy paint store.
Our father founded The Paint People in 1997 after spotting an opportunity while working in the construction industry. He noticed how busy paint stores were and decided to take a chance on opening one of his own.
Our first location was a small Para Paints dealership at the corner of Dundas Street and Hurontario Street in Mississauga. From the beginning, the business focused on serving local painters and contractors with dependable products and practical advice.
Five years later, we moved to Mavis Road and Burnhamthorpe Road, home of our Cooksville store. The move let us bring in Benjamin Moore, expand our inventory, and eventually offer interior design services, wallpaper and colour consultations.
In 2010, we took over from our father as the second generation of our family. We wanted to build on what he started while finding new ways to serve a growing customer base. Today, The Paint People is still a family business, true to the values he built it on.

Our fourth location
Taking The Paint People online.
In 2020, the pandemic pushed us to rethink how we connect with customers. We launched our online store and YouTube channel, two projects we'd wanted to pursue for some time. What started as a way to adapt became one of the most exciting chapters in our history.
Today our YouTube channel has more than 154,000 subscribers, where we share product reviews, painting advice, colour inspiration and practical tips. And our online store serves customers across Canada with professional paint supplies, spray equipment and specialty coatings.
We've brought our colour expertise online too, helping customers make confident colour decisions from home.

Nothing is worse than getting halfway through a job and finding the colour is off. When it's custom, it matches from the first coat to the last.

We wouldn't be where we are without the hard work and dedication of our team. Our 20 or so employees are part of our family, and our customers feel it.
Our people have been with us for an average of eight years, and some for more than fifteen. It's no surprise customers ask for them by name.

A long-time customer took on a project in the Caribbean and wanted his materials from us. It wasn't easy, but we made it work and shipped the paint south.
