How to Clean a Spray Gun

  1. Empty the cup. Pour out leftover coating and wipe the cup with a cleaner-soaked rag.
  2. Flush the gun. Half-fill the cup with the right cleaner, swirl it and spray it into a waste container until it runs clear.
  3. Take it apart. Remove the collar and air cap, then the needle (mind the spring) and the fluid nozzle.
  4. Soak the small parts. Soak the needle, nozzle and air cap in cleaner. Never soak the whole gun.
  5. Brush and clear. Scrub the parts with the brushes and clear the air cap holes with the micro brushes or precision needles.
  6. Oil and reassemble. Oil only the needle shaft, keeping it off the tip, then put the gun back together.

Why it matters

Clean gun, clean finish.

A better patternDried coating in the air cap holes skews the fan. The micro brushes and needles clear them without damage.
No metal on metalA wire brush or metal tool can damage a gun. Nylon brushes and fine needles are the safe way.
A smoother triggerA drop of lubricant on the needle shaft keeps the gun moving freely.

FAQ

Cleaning kit questions, answered.

Will it work on my spray gun?

Yes. The kit is made for all types of spray guns and equipment, including Fuji HVLP turbine guns, compressor guns and other brands.

What's in the kit?

An extra-long 12" pick-up tube brush, HVLP brush, body cavity brush, detail end brush, nylon bristle parts brush, 5-piece micro brush set, 6-piece precision needle set and spray gun lubricant.

Where do I use the lubricant?

On the needle shaft only, before you put it back in the gun. Keep it off the front of the needle, which touches the coating.

Can I soak my gun in solvent?

Soak only the small parts: needle, nozzle and air cap. Never soak the whole gun.

How often should I clean my gun?

Right after every use, before the coating dries. A quick flush between coats and a full strip-down at the end of the day keeps the pattern even.

What if cleaning doesn't fix the spray?

Worn seals may be the cause. Try a 5262 rebuild kit for T70 and T75G guns, or bring the gun to our Mississauga spray centre.

Look after your gun.
