FAQ

INSL-X questions, answered.

What is INSL-X?

INSL-X is Benjamin Moore's line of primers and specialty coatings, made for the jobs ordinary paint can't handle: bonding to tile and laminate, blocking stains, garage and concrete floors, swimming pools, anti-slip surfaces and fire retardant walls.

Is INSL-X made by Benjamin Moore?

Yes. INSL-X products are made by Benjamin Moore & Co. Our product pages use Benjamin Moore's Canadian technical data sheets for coverage, dry times and prep.

Which INSL-X primer do I need?

Use Stix to bond to slick surfaces like tile, laminate, PVC and glass. Use Aqua Lock Plus to block water, smoke, tannin and crayon stains with a water-based primer, or Prime Lock Plus for an oil-based stain blocker that works down to 7 °C.

What's the best INSL-X garage floor paint?

GarageGuard 1-Part is the easiest: no mixing, self-priming and it resists hot tire pickup, inside or out. GarageGuard Epoxy is a true 2-part waterborne epoxy for indoor garages that take heavy wear. A 2-car garage takes about 3 cans of 1-Part or 4 kits of Epoxy for two coats.

Which INSL-X pool paint should I use?

It depends on what's on your pool now. Waterborne goes over most sound coatings, Rubber Based recoats rubber pools, and Epoxy is for epoxy pools, bare concrete, fibreglass and steel. Our pool finder runs you through a quick solvent test.

Can I paint over kitchen cabinets with INSL-X?

Yes. Cabinet Coat sticks to varnish and polyurethane without a primer and levels to a smooth, factory-like finish. For laminate doors, prime with Stix first.

Can I tint INSL-X products?

Some, not all. Primers like Aqua Lock Plus can be tinted toward your topcoat, while FR-210 fire retardant paint must not be tinted. Each product page lists its colours. Ask our team if you need a custom colour.
