Why colour-changing

See every pass of the roller.

Rolling white over a white ceiling, it's almost impossible to tell where you've been until the paint dries and the thin spots and misses show up. The pink shows you while it's still wet, so you can fix them on the spot.

01

Pink while wet

Disappearing pink colour-change technology shows painted areas, so you don't miss spots.

02

Flat white when dry

Dries to a uniform white, flat finish that helps minimize the look of surface imperfections.

03

Made for overhead

Spatter resistant and self-priming, for smooth or textured ceilings. Soap-and-water clean-up.

For interior ceilings: new or previously painted drywall, acoustical ceiling tile, cured masonry and plaster. Not for high-traffic areas or surfaces that need frequent cleaning. Apply between 10 °C and 32 °C.

How to apply

Paint your ceiling right.

  1. Prep the ceiling. It should be clean and dry, with no dust, grease or mildew. Scrape peeling paint, feather-sand the edges and dull any glossy areas.
  2. Protect the room. Cover floors and furniture, and tape the top of the walls with FrogTape.
  3. Stir well and don't thin. Check the room is between 10 °C and 32 °C.
  4. Cut in, then roll with a quality roller on an extension pole. Apply generously, working from unpainted areas into wet paint to keep a wet edge.
  5. Watch the pink. Fill in any pale or bare spots while it's still wet. The pink fades to white as it dries.
  6. Second coat after 2 hours if needed. Clean up with warm soapy water.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

How does colour-changing ceiling paint work?

It goes on light pink, so you can see exactly where you've painted and spot any missed areas while you roll. As it dries, the pink disappears and it turns a uniform flat white.

What ceilings can I use it on?

New or previously painted drywall, acoustical ceiling tile, cured masonry, plaster and other interior ceiling surfaces, smooth or textured. It's a ceiling paint, so it isn't for high-traffic areas or surfaces that need frequent cleaning.

Do I need a primer?

It's self-priming on properly prepared surfaces. Patched spots, bare plaster or stains may need a primer first: use Fresh Start High-Hiding All Purpose for general priming, or the oil-based Fresh Start Undercoater for water stains.

How much do I need?

A 3.79 L can covers 300–400 sq ft per coat, depending on the texture and porosity of the ceiling. A 12 × 12 ft room is 144 sq ft of ceiling, so one can covers about two coats. Use the calculator above.

How many coats?

One or two. One coat is often enough for white over white on a ceiling in good condition. New drywall, stains or a colour change usually need two.

How long does it take to dry?

Tack free in 1 hour and ready to recoat in 2 hours at 25 °C and 50% humidity. Cool temperatures and high humidity slow drying.

Can I spray it?

Yes. Use a brush, roller, airless sprayer (minimum 1,500 PSI, .013–.017 tip), HVLP or conventional spray. Don't thin it.

Can it be tinted?

No. It's sold in white only. For a tinted ceiling, choose Benjamin Moore Waterborne Ceiling Paint, which can be tinted to almost any Benjamin Moore colour.

Is it low odour? How do I clean up?

It's a water-based acrylic at 47.8 g/L VOC. Clean up spatters right away and wash tools with warm soapy water.

Sizes and shipping?

3.79 L cans. We ship across Canada, free on most orders over $249, or pick up free in Mississauga.
