Why Muresco
A trusted classic for white ceilings.
Ceilings are the hardest surface to paint: you're working overhead, the light rakes across them and every lap mark shows. Muresco is made for exactly that job.
No lap marks
Extended open time lets you keep a wet edge across the whole ceiling, and the flat finish hides small flaws and cuts glare from your lights.
Less mess overhead
Spatter resistant, so less paint ends up on you, the floor and the furniture. Rolls and sprays on smoothly.
Fast and low odour
Dry to the touch in an hour and recoat in two. Acrylic, low VOC (47.8 g/L) and soap-and-water clean-up.
For interior ceilings: drywall, plaster, textured ceilings, acoustical tile, wallpapered ceilings and cured masonry. Not for high-traffic walls or surfaces that need frequent washing. Apply between 10 °C and 32 °C.

How to apply
Get a flawless ceiling.
- Prep the room. Clear or cover the floor and furniture, and mask walls and light fixtures with painter's tape.
- Clean and patch. Remove dust, grease and mildew, scrape loose paint and feather-sand the edges. Dull any glossy areas.
- Prime where needed. New drywall: Muresco can prime itself. Plaster, bare wood and concrete: Fresh Start. Water-sensitive stippled ceilings: an oil-based primer.
- Cut in first, then roll the ceiling in sections with a quality roller on an extension pole. Roll from unpainted areas back into wet paint and keep a wet edge.
- Second coat after 2 hours. Roll it at a right angle to the first coat for the most even finish.
- Clean up with warm soapy water. Give spray equipment a final mineral spirits rinse to prevent rust.
FAQ
Questions, answered.
What can I use Muresco on?
Interior ceilings in homes and businesses: new or previously painted drywall, plaster, textured ceilings, acoustical ceiling tile, wallpapered ceilings and cured masonry. It's a ceiling paint, so it isn't made for walls in high-traffic areas or surfaces you'll need to wash often.
Muresco or Waterborne Ceiling Paint?
Both are flat white ceiling paints from Benjamin Moore. Muresco is the value choice for plain white ceilings. Waterborne Ceiling Paint has an even flatter finish, zero VOC, and can be tinted to almost any colour if you want something other than white.
Can Muresco be tinted?
No. Muresco comes in one ready-mixed white (01). For a tinted ceiling, choose Waterborne Ceiling Paint, which can be tinted to almost any Benjamin Moore colour.
Do I need a primer?
On new drywall, Muresco can be its own primer. Plaster, bare wood and smooth concrete take Fresh Start High-Hiding All Purpose Primer first. On a repaint, just spot prime bare areas. Old stippled (popcorn) ceilings can be water-sensitive, so Benjamin Moore recommends an oil-based primer first. Ask us if you're not sure.
Can I paint a textured or popcorn ceiling?
Yes, Muresco is made for textured ceilings. Stippled (popcorn) ceilings can soften when they get wet, so test a small hidden spot first and prime with an oil-based primer if the texture loosens. Use a thick-nap roller or spray it.
How much do I need?
A 3.78 L can covers 400–450 sq ft per coat, and an 18.9 L pail covers about five times that. A 12 × 12 ft room is 144 sq ft of ceiling, so one 3.78 L can handles two coats. Use the calculator above.
How long does it take to dry?
Dry to the touch in 1 hour and ready to recoat in 2 hours at 25 °C and 50% humidity, so two coats fit in an afternoon. Cool, humid rooms take longer.
Will it spatter when I roll overhead?
Muresco is made to resist spatter, and its extended open time helps you avoid lap marks. Load the roller evenly, don't overload it, and roll from unpainted areas back into wet paint.
Can I spray it?
Yes. Use an airless sprayer at 1,000–2,000 PSI with a .013–.017 tip. If needed, thin with up to 8 fl oz (about 240 mL) of water per 3.78 L, or use Benjamin Moore Extender K518. Clean up with warm soapy water.
Sizes and shipping?
946 mL, 3.78 L and 18.9 L pails. We ship across Canada, free on most orders over $249, or pick up free in Mississauga.
