DAP Eclipse Rapid Wall Repair Patch
DAP Eclipse is a self-adhesive drywall repair patch for permanent, mess-free repairs on interior walls and ceilings. It needs no spackling or sanding of the patch itself. Press it over the damage, paint it, and the repair is done in about three coats.
Key Features
- Self-adhesive patch with no spackle or joint compound.
- Stronger than drywall: DAP rates the 6 in. patch 4X and the 4 in. patch 2X stronger than drywall.
- Won't peel or lose adhesion over time, says DAP.
- Doorknob impact: DAP lists large repairs designed to withstand it.
- Textured walls: match the texture with aerosol spray texture or a textured roller.
What It's For
Nail holes, nail pops, screw holes, anchor holes, furniture dents, fixture relocation and doorknob damage in drywall. Interior use only. Not for exterior surfaces or wet or damp surfaces. Do not apply below 4 °C.
Sizes
- 2 in. (4-pack): repairs damage up to 1 in. across.
- 4 in.: repairs damage up to 2 in. across.
- 6 in.: repairs damage up to 3 in. across.
Patch or Filler?
Use an Eclipse patch for holes up to 3 in. when you want a fast repair with no sanding of the repair. For larger holes, or a fill that is feathered into the wall, use a patching compound. Prime the patch with a drywall primer such as Premium Drywall Primer, then finish with interior latex paint.

How to Use
- Prep. Push rough edges in, sand the damage and surrounding area smooth, and wipe off dust with a dry cloth. The surface must be dry.
- Peel the patch off the white carrier sheet using the slit.
- Place the grey centre circle over the damage and press firmly around the edges.
- First coat. Roll on paint with light pressure and plenty of paint.
- Remove the clear layer with the pop-up tab after the first coat dries.
- Finish with two more thick coats. Paint dries slower on the patch than on the wall.
On textured walls, remove the clear layer straight away and apply texture to match.
FAQ
1Which size patch do I need?
Pick the patch by the damage. The 2 in. patch covers damage up to 1 in., the 4 in. up to 2 in. and the 6 in. up to 3 in. A small nail or screw hole fits the 2 in. patch.
2Can I really paint right away?
You can start painting once the patch is on. DAP's steps are: roll one coat, let it dry, pull the clear layer, then roll two more thick coats.
3Do I need to sand or use spackle?
No spackle or sanding of the patch. DAP does tell you to sand the damaged area and edges smooth and wipe off dust before you stick it on.
4Is it as strong as drywall?
DAP says the 6 in. patch is 4X stronger than drywall and the 4 in. is 2X stronger. It does not give a strength figure for the 2 in. patch.
5Can I use it on exterior walls or wet surfaces?
It is for interior walls and ceilings only. DAP says not for exterior use and not for wet or damp surfaces.
6What paint and primer should I use?
DAP recommends a high-quality interior latex paint and a primer coat for better adhesion and drying. Roll with light pressure and plenty of paint.
7How do I handle a textured wall?
Remove the clear protective layer right after you place the patch. Then match the wall with aerosol spray texture or a textured paint roller.
8Can I patch in a cold room in winter?
Apply at 13–32 °C (55–90 °F) and never below 4 °C (40 °F). In winter, heat the room and let the wall warm up first.
