Norton ProSand 3X Job Pack Abrasive Sheets, Aluminum Oxide
Norton ProSand sheets are 9 x 11 in. aluminum oxide sandpaper on a paper backing, sold in a 20-sheet job pack. They are made for hand sanding wood, paint and other surfaces with a sanding block. The anti-clog coating helps the sheets resist loading, and they have no colour dye, so nothing transfers to your work.
Key Features
- Aluminum oxide abrasive on a paper backing.
- Anti-clog coating: a non-pigmented, water-based stearate coating with an open coat.
- No colour dye, so no colour transfer.
- Fibre-reinforced, latex-saturated backing for tear resistance.
- 20 sheets per pack in nine grits.
What It's For
Hand sanding wood, and prepping and finishing painted surfaces. Norton also lists metals and fibreglass composites. Norton does not state wet-sanding use for these sheets, so use them dry.
Grits
- 60 and 80 (Coarse): heavy removal and rough wood.
- 100, 120 and 150 (Medium): smoothing and paint prep.
- 180 (Fine) and 220 (Very Fine): final sanding before finish.
- 320 and 400 (Extra and Super Fine): between coats of finish.

How to Use
- Pick the grit. Start coarse for rough surfaces and finish with a finer grit.
- Wrap the sheet around a sanding block or board, or hold a folded sheet for curves.
- Sand with the grain on wood, using even pressure.
- Move up one grit at a time, for example 120 then 180, rather than skipping several grits.
- Wipe off the dust before you prime, paint or stain. Wear a dust mask.
- Replace the sheet when it stops cutting.
FAQ
1What size are the sheets?
9 x 11 in., the standard sandpaper sheet size. A pack holds 20 sheets of one grit.
2Which grit should I buy?
80 for stripping rough spots, 120 to 150 for most paint prep, 180 to 220 for final sanding of bare wood, and 320 to 400 between finish coats.
3What grit do I use to sand before painting?
120 to 150 grit is a common choice to dull a glossy surface and smooth rough edges. Use a finer grit on previously painted trim.
4Are the sheets tear-resistant?
The backing is fibre-reinforced and latex-saturated for better tear resistance, so the sheets hold up when you wrap them around a block.
5Does it clog?
The stearate coating and open coat are there to resist clogging. Tap or brush off dust, and swap in a fresh sheet when it stops cutting.
6Can I use it wet?
Norton's product information doesn't say these sheets are for wet sanding, so we recommend dry use. Contact us if you need a wet/dry sandpaper.
7Will it leave colour on light wood?
No. The sheets have no colour dye, which Norton says gives zero colour transfer.
